The photo above is the decoration on an Anglo-Saxon style storage jar made by me. The design was taken from an authentic piece, done in buff coloured medium stoneware clay fired to Cone 6 in an electric kiln. Before the final firing, I brushed on a stain or engobe of red clay, then wiped off the excess, to enhance the design. This was not done by Anglo-Saxon potters, but it gives this modern piece a bit more of the rustic look the original would have had.
